Family Friendly Halloween Movies
As we enter the last week of September, the kids are getting super excited about Halloween. They are craving candy and asking to watch our favorite Halloween movies. Here’s our list of family friendly movies for Halloween:
Hocus Pocus
This is probably no surprise as Hocus Pocus 2 ads have been playing a good deal this month. It has a spooky story about the Sanderson sisters, humor and adventure. Also, don’t forget the 90s fashion. This movie is fun for kids and parents to watch. We’re looking forward to watching Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney when it releases on September 30. I will warn that the original movie has a few inappropriate words and phrases.
ET-The Extra Terrestrial
This is a classic kids movie and so enjoyable to watch around Halloween. It has a sweet story of friendship with adventure and magic thrown in too. My kids and I recently watched it together and at first they thought it would be scary but then ended up enjoying it. It will note that it does have some inappropriate phrases in it as is usual for 80s movies that are rated PG.
Coco
The movie Coco follows Miguel as he goes to the Land of the Dead. In this Pixar film, families can learn about Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It has adventure, good music, and an emotional message in the end. This is another one my family usually watches in the month of October. However, some of the skeleton images and discussion of death might be too scary for younger children. Parents get your tissues ready as this has some sad moments for sure.
The Book of Life
The Book of Life is an underrated kids movie that begins on the Day of the Dead and follows the story of three friends. It brings the viewer into the world of the Dia de Los Muertos celebration and traditions. It does have some scare scenes for some younger viewers but overall it is enjoyable for kids and adults.
The Adams Family
The Adams Family, animated movies, is another great choice for the whole family to enjoy. My children definitely laugh at these two movies and are more family friendly then The Adams Family movie from the 90s.
More Family Friendly Movies To Consider
Some other movie ideas your family might enjoy as we enter the Halloween season include: It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Coraline, Goosebumps (probably better for older kids) and lastly The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is definitely a Halloween and a Christmas movie.
I hope this post was useful for you as you enjoy some family friendly movies for Halloween. Hope you have a lovely week!
