Family Picnic at the Vineyard
Now that spring is ending and summer is almost here, my family and I like to do a weekend picnic at our local vineyard. The kids love to run around and enjoy a picnic lunch. Here are some ideas to plan your own picnic at the vineyard!
Timing & Arrival
We usually go as soon as the vineyard opens to avoid the heat, the crowds and the potential of our kids getting cranky after lunch! The vineyard we go to has grounds where we can walk around. The kids enjoy seeing the vines, the birds, the wildflowers and the turtles in the pond.
What To Pack
Depending on your vineyard, there might be tables. I usually pack a picnic blanket just in case and a few small toys for the kids to play with if needed. Our vineyard let’s us bring in snacks, if not you can order food when you buy a bottle of wine. Regardless of the vineyard rules, I will always pack a few kids friendly snacks or a sandwich for the children. My children are picky eaters and it’s usually a better idea to come prepared with a snack or lunch for them. I always pack sanitizer and wet wipes as well for easy clean up. Depending on the age of your children, you might pack a book or a coloring book to keep the kids entertained while you enjoy your wine and cheese.
Snack Ideas
We usually pack a small cheese board. Of course we need our favorite cheeses, a few cured meats and crackers too. Then we will pack olives, fruit for the kids and maybe some chicken salad too. Lastly, some dark chocolate as well. A few waters to drink with the wine and for the kids too. Don’t forget a plate or board and a cheese knife.
As you can see an excursion to your local vineyard, can be an fun outing even for the children in your family. In addition, I hope this inspires you to explore a new place in your community and plan your own summer time picnic with your family, whether you go to a local vineyard or a newly discovered park. Have a lovely week!
