My Favorite Books of 2022

Now that 2023 is here, I like to look back at my list of books I have read in the past year. In case you are looking for something new to read, here are my top 5 favorite books for 2022 in no particular order!

Firekeeper’s Daughter

This book,  by Angeline Boulley, follows Daunis Fontaine who is part of the Ojibwe tribe but has never felt like she fits in. She witnesses a murder, and then is involved in a FBI investigation involving a lethal new drug in the community. This book is thrilling and exciting, and you will not want to put it down. I should know as I enjoyed this book last January when I was home sick with Covid on the couch. It is a Reece Witherspoon pick and is going to be adapted on Netflix too.

The Paris Apartment

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley is a great mystery. The main character, Jess, is having a hard time and just lost her job. She calls her brother and is going to crash on his couch in Paris. However, when she arrives in Paris her brother is no where to be found. The residents of the apartment building are not friendly or helpful, and Jess is left to figure it all out. Such an enjoyable mystery with lots of plot twists. If you like this one, definitely check out the rest of Lucy Foley’s mysteries like The Guest List and The Hunting Party too.

The Last Cuentista

The Last Cuentista written by Donna Barba Higuera is the winner of the John Newbery Medal award, and although it is technically a middle grade/juvenile Science Fiction book this is not to be missed. The story is about a young girl named Petra Pena who wants to be a story teller just like her grandma. However, life on Earth is ending. A comet is destroying Earth and Petra, her family and a few hundred scientist have been chosen to go to a new planet. Hundreds of years later, Petra wakes on the new planet and discovers she is the only person who remembers Earth. A group called the Collectives has taken over the ship during the ship’s journey. This group has purged the memories of all on board. So Petra is the only one who knows the stories of Earth. This is such an thrilling, hopeful yet heartbreaking and beautifully written story.

Daisy and The Six

This was such an exciting book following the rise of a 1970s rock band and the beautiful lead singer. It is written in an interview format and a super enjoyable book. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but definitely a must read especially if you like this author(Taylor Jenkins Reid) who wrote The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising. Also, it is being adapted by Prime Video and will air in March.

The Dead Romantics

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston is a sweet and unexpected book. It follows Florence Day who is a ghost writer in New York who can actually see ghosts (not in spooky way but in a helpful manner). Although, she is a romance writer, she no longer believes in love after a horrible breakup. Her family owns a funeral parlor too, and when she get a life changing phone call she returns home after a decade away. This book has it all; humor, excitement, and tenderness. Such an loveable story!

I hope you find something interesting that you want to read soon. What about you, did you have any favorite books of the year or have you started started a new one this year? I am currently reading The Villa by Rachel Hawkins and loving it so far. Have a lovely week!
